Het kabinet is a festival for electronic music and art in Amterdam. I will be there this weekend with the lichtbloem workshop to put a lighting flower in your hair!
Together with the nice people at the Lumiblade creative lab i have been working on a collection of objects for their exciting OLED technology. I created 3 pieces, all emphasizing the unique flatness of the technology.
The collection consist of flyght, Slight and Otree. Philips choose to commission Slight for their permanent exhibition space in Aachen.
Every year during the fall for one week The Hague turns into THE playground for kids. Around 50 locations participate in offering a wide range of theater and art for kid between the age of 2 and 12.
Our lichtbloem workshop was set up in a theater at the hart of The Hague, around 400 kids joint us and build there own lighting flower. The workshop was commissioned by Play+ART, a very cool company which aims to bring art into the world which can be played with!
We can’t say it was a piece of cake, but we loved it!
Thanks to all the enthusiastic kids and adults during who visited the different workshops this summer, there are now over 1000 lichtbloemen (hand) made…. so about 200.000 fibers have been put into ping pong balls (for the record)
After showing marram (helmgras) at intothegreatwideopen festival last year, i was excited to be part of the most relaxed festival of the summer ones again! The festival is known for it’s broad program, both for adults as for their kids. I was part of a place called the “kids art studio”, a separate area full of Yurt’s (tents) which where used as workshops.
In the evening we gathered with some kids which participated in the workshop for a walk into the dark. Thanks to Jitke Hagen we have some great pictures to remember them by!
Thanks to the international expansion of the festival, we are able to show belgium how to make a lichtbloem!
After showing the etree installion in 2009 visitors of TodaysArt can create lichtbloem on this years edition! As this would be the first event where grown ups will make their own lichtbloem, we are curious about their reaction.
TodaysArt
TodaysArt is a festival concept that revolves around the presentation and development of adventurous contemporary visual and performing arts. Since 2005, TodaysArt has brought international artists, thinkers and audiences to The Hague. In 2011, the festival’s outreach will be extended through the initiation of TodaysArt Brussels.
