coen

youth
Coen grew up in the east of the Netherlands. He learned walking on his table in the play corner. With his first Technical Lego box Coen build everything except the motor showed on the box. He was mainly fascinated by parts like cog-wheels and rubber tubes.

education
He moved to the other side of the country to start at the Industrial Product Design faculty. Coen accelerated in the concept development part of the design process.

His internship at Hiroshi Tsunoda design studio (Barcelona) was the most important period during his education for Coen. Hiroshi’s approach towards product design as an autonomous art let to beautiful products with conceptual and visual essence. The fact that this approach didn’t necessary let to mass production was more appealing than it was disappointing.

During and after his study Coen started to explore other disciplines like 3D visualization, installation art and graphic design, in which Coen worked as a freelancer during and after his study. By making autonomous work Coen discovered his own identity as a designer. This led to a complete focus on product design since 2009 once again!

coens
Coen founded studio Coens in the summer of 2009. Through the last year Coen is drawn into the light (technology), where he now stays for a while. Coens started presenting his first light designs on events like the Dutch Design Week (Einhoven), TodaysArt (The Hague) and the Luminale (Frankfurt).
